Class Descriptions

Active Classes

YIN YOGA
Including both yin and restorative yoga poses, in this class students increase range of motion, release tension and balance the body’s energetic system.  All poses are done seated or lying down and are usually held for 3-5 minutes.
This class is designed for all levels of yoga experience, including beginners.

YOGA LIFE COACHING
In addition to teaching yoga asana (poses), Anna is a certified Yoga Life Coach.  Life coaching is not therapy and it is not goal setting.  Instead, yoga life coaching is a series of conversations that deepens people's connection with and confidence in their personal truth.

Some examples of why a person might pursue YLC:
  • you feel stuck, like you keep getting into the same dynamic over and over and aren't sure why
  • you are curious about something/someone and want to explore how to engage that something/someone
  • you want support understanding/making sense of something in your own terms
  • you could use some encouragement in a new venture or letting go of something that no longer serves you
  • you want to have any kind of conversation that matters to you!

Price:  $99/three 40-minute phone conversations.  Each conversation is followed up with an email summarizing what we discussed.

Inactive Classes

VINYASA FLOW
This class links breath with conscious movement.  Blending the dynamism of sun salutations with creative sequencing and mindful holds, students cultivate strength, focus and awareness.
Variations of poses are offered throughout class, making the practice accessible for all levels of experience.

CURIOUS ABOUT YOGA?
This 3-week* discussion series is designed for anybody with the slightest amount of interest in yoga.  Whether you are curious about the yoga classes at the library, wondering whether yoga can help you feel better or might enjoy sharing how you experience yoga, you are invited!

Format
This is not a yoga class, it is a facilitated, informal conversation to begin/deepen our understanding of yoga.
To provide common ground for the conversation, each week will begin with a brief (10-15 minute) presentation.  Anna will then facilitate questions and comments.  Each evening will also include live demonstrations (for example, different variations of the same pose to show how people with a wide range of experience, strength and flexibility can practice the same pose) and an opportunity for those who are interested to try out the demonstrations.

The topics for each week's discussion are listed below.  Please keep in mind, however, that topics overlap.

1. Wednesday June 10 5:30 pm - The Meat & Potatoes of Yoga
Yoga is a scientific tradition that reconnects practitioners with our innate potential as human beings.  Although the physical benefits of yoga have become quite popular, yoga is a holistic system that also cultivates emotional, mental and social wellness.

This week we will explore the roots and limbs of yoga.

2. Wednesday June 17 5:30 pm - Yoga for the Rest-of-Us!
Yoga may be rooted in a scientific tradition that dates back thousands of years, but today it is a lucrative industry.  (Last year, Americans spent more than $27 billion/year on yoga!)  Although that spending popularizes athletic styles of yoga that appeal to the young and flexible, more and more of us are discovering how yoga practices assists in recovery from illness, trauma, sedentary lifestyles and addiction.

This week we will explore styles of yoga practice both "out there" in the world and "right here" in our community.

3.  Wednesday June 24 5:30 pm - "Just the Facts, Ma'am."
There are increasing numbers of research scientists documenting  the benefits of practicing yoga.  What outcomes are compelling so many of us to give yoga a try?  Do we have to chant, buy yoga clothes or join a yoga studio to experience yoga's positive results?

This week we will explore the outcomes associated with various  yoga practices.

*each week we will meet from 5:30 - 6:45 pm
